THE DOLPHIN
UNIVERSAL™ |
|

|
The
DOLPHIN UNIVERSAL™ is a system designed to release the main
canopy and activate the reserve parachute whether the jumper
pulls the reserve ripcord, pulls the cutaway handle, or pulls
both in any order. This is a system which can be used by jumpers
who have been trained on an S.O.S or on a dual-action system,
and the beauty of the UNIVERSAL™ is that it requires absolutely
no change in configuration between an S.O.S. jumper and a
dual-action jumper. (Just repack the main.)
The features of the DOLPHIN UNIVERSAL™ include two sets of
release housings, a standard cutaway handle, an S.O.S. reserve
ripcord, and 3-ring risers, each of which is fitted with two
grommets. Instead of one grommet with a fixed loop, the
UNIVERSAL™ uses a free loop to secure the 3-ring assembly when
the riser is attached to the harness.
The free loop passes around the smallest ring of the 3-ring
assembly and each end then goes thru its respective grommet to
the rear of the riser where it is secured by its respective
release cable. (See FIG. 1) |
|
 |
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
1) Assuming that the reserve
is already packed, the S.O.S. handle will be in place in its
pocket just below the chest strap on the wearer's left side
with the release cables inserted into their respective
housings.
2) Insert the cables of the cutaway handle into their
housings on the wearer's right side in the normal manner,
and secure the handle to the velcro on the rear side of the
main lift web just below the chest strap.
3) Thread a free loop onto the short release cable on each
side and pass the other end of the loop thru the housing
terminal as shown in FIG.2.
|
|
 |
4) Assemble the 3-rings of
each riser in the normal manner and pass the free loop from
the rear to the front thru the LOWER grommet in the riser.
The loop is then passed up around the smallest ring and back
thru the upper grommet where it is secured by the cable
coming from the long housing. The front of the assembly
should now look like FIG. 1. Be sure that the free loop
passes only around the smallest ring on each riser.
5) The ends of both cables should now be inserted up into
the "excess cable channel" on the rear of each riser.
6) The Reserve Static Line (RSL) should now be connected as
shown in the DOLPHIN OWNER'S MANUAL. (Remember that the RSL
must be connected for the UNIVERSAL™ features to be
operational. )
NOTE: Please use only the free loops manufactured by Altico.
These loops have been extensively tested, and they are
produced to extremely close tolerances. An extra set of
loops is normally supplied with any set of UNIVERSAL™
risers.

ALTERNATIVE CONFIGURATIONS
1) A main canopy equipped
with UNIVERSAL™ risers may be assembled with a standard
3-ring rig. The free loop is simply secured at both ends on
each riser by the single cable.
2) A main canopy equipped with standard risers may be
assembled with a UNIVERSAL™ rig, but it must be understood
that in this configuration the rig can only be S.O.S. or
dual-action; it cannot be both. Be sure to observe the
following precautions:
a) If the rig is to be configured for dual-action, remove
the S.O.S. ripcord and replace it with a standard reserve
ripcord.
b) If the rig is to be configured for S.O.S., remove the
cutaway handle.
c) In either configuration [ a) or b) above], the rig will
now have one set of operational housings and one set of
empty housings. To keep the empty housings from flopping
around and being a nuisance (or a hazard), both housings
will be secured by the single locking loop on each riser as
shown in FIG. 3.
NOTE: In either of these
alternative configurations the Reserve Static Line (RSL) is
optional.
